How long does it take to extract a tooth?

For a single tooth extraction, it usually takes 20-40 minutes. If you need multiple teeth extracted, it will take longer. Each additional tooth adds 3-15 minutes, depending on where it is located.

Follow your dentist’s aftercare instructions. These include resting, keeping your activities to a minimum 24 hours after extraction, eating soft foods, and taking the required medication.

You can take two days off work, which covers the day of the operation. Others sometimes rest for 3 days, especially if they’ve had multiple teeth removed simultaneously and/or underwent general anesthesia.

Two to three days. In the first one to two days after your dental extraction, your body prioritizes healing. You may experience minor bleeding and pain at the extraction site. It’s important to rest and conserve energy during this time, as healing requires considerable energy.

Frequently removing the pack to check for bleeding can lead to problems. So, keeping the gauze or tea bag in place steadily for at least an hour is crucial. If bleeding persists for several hours, inform your dentist promptly.

Approximately an hour post-surgery. You can remove the gauze sponges and have a soft meal. Stick to soft foods for the initial 24 hours after surgery and avoid hot foods and drinks for some time. Refrain from using a straw for at least 24 hours as well.
